WKB Legal Alert: Electronic access to the Register of Family Foundations
On 29 July 2026, a new solution in the operation of the Register of Family Foundations will come into effect. Under the Regulation of the Minister of Justice of 22 April 2026, it will now be possible to access data collected in this register, maintained by the Regional Court in Piotrków Trybunalski, by electronic means.
This represents a significant step forwards in the digitalization of services for family foundations. At present, although the register itself is kept on a dedicated IT system, persons who wish to obtain information from the register must make their requests to the court using traditional methods. Once the new Regulation comes into force, data on family foundations entered in the Register will be available by electronic means.
What will change?
The most important change will be the ability to access information in the Register of Family Foundations online, through an IT system made available by the Regional Court in Piotrków Trybunalski. Basic registration information will now be available electronically, including the family foundation’s name, its RFR number, REGON and NIP, as well as the family foundation’s registered office.
The new solution is intended to facilitate the verification of the legal status of family foundations and to improve access to data for parties to business transactions.
Digitalization of access to the RFR as a response to practical needs
Family foundations play an increasingly important role in succession planning processes and the long-term management of family assets. An efficient and easily accessible register is one element that can help ensure the security and transparency of transactions involving these entities.
The introduction of electronic access to the Register of Family Foundations will cut down on formalities and speed up the process of obtaining even basic registration information. For interested parties, this means fewer obstacles and the ability quickly verify data, without needing to submit enquiries to the court.
