We are pleased to announce that Dorota Karczewska is joining WKB’s competition law and consumer protection law team as a Counsel.

Dorota Karczewska is an attorney-at-law specialising in competition and consumer protection law. For the last 5 years she held the position of Vice-President of the Polish competition authority – the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, where she had worked for the past 21 years.

As a vice-president of the OCCP she was the head of the consumer protection division. She was involved in the enforcement of consumer protection law, participated in the legislative process at both national and European level, initiated self-regulatory processes in businesses and business associations, and supervised the Trade Inspection, the OCCP’s laboratories and the European Consumer Centre in Poland. She cooperated with consumer ombudsmen, consumer organisations and market regulators belonging to the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network. She also participated in meetings of the heads of the authorities responsible for consumer protection in the European Union within the framework of the Consumer Protection Network (CPN) and was a member of the Polish government’s Committee for European Affairs.

“I wanted to continue my professional career in a strong and substantively robust team. That is why I am very pleased to be able to join the practice, which is generally considered to be one of the best in Poland. I hope that my professional experience will help the Firm’s Clients fulfil their complex obligations resulting from legal regulations,” commented Dorota Karczewska.

Dorota Karczewska has been included twice among the “50 most influential lawyers” in Poland by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

“For a long time now, Clients have not expected us to simply identify legal risks. We are a strategic advisor whose role is also to assess the level of risk and identify ways to mitigate it. Dorota’s extensive practical experience in enforcing legal regulations shall certainly be of great value to us in our complex projects.” – said Aleksander Stawicki, partner in charge of the competition law and consumer protection law practice at WKB.

WKB’s competition and consumer protection law team is one of the leading teams in Poland and has been recommended in Chambers Europe (Band 1) and The Legal 500 EMEA (Tier 1) rankings for many years. The team currently consists of 7 qualified attorneys-at-law, supported by a group of junior lawyers, and thus is one of the largest specialist teams in this field in Poland. Dorota will also closely work with WKB’s banking and finance team and will also support our product liability team, due to her experience as the former supervisor of the State Trade Inspection.
